Balls - Football - Outdoor Sports for training, match and play

Balls for football and other forms of outdoor sports include options for both serious training and casual play in the garden, on gravel pitches, in the schoolyard and on the beach. The selection is suitable for children, teenagers and adults who want a ball that matches their level and the type of surface.

Here you’ll find choices for technical training, small-sided games and match situations, as well as durable balls for break-time games and relaxed play on hard surfaces. The aim is to make it easy to choose a ball that feels right underfoot, holds its shape and suits the way you play.

Types of balls and choosing the right size

Match balls are designed for precise flight, consistent bounce and uniform touch with every strike. They are best suited to natural or artificial grass where the surface is even and the ball needs to react predictably at high speed.

Training balls follow the same fundamental principles but are often slightly more robust to withstand frequent use and changing weather. They are ideal for club training, technical drills and small-sided games, where ball contact and feel are crucial.

Schoolyard balls and variants for asphalt, concrete and other hard surfaces come with extra durable outer layers and often a slightly firmer core. This ensures a longer lifespan and controlled bounce, even when the ball hits edges and uneven ground.

Balls for beach and street football are typically softer to the touch and have surfaces that provide good grip for both feet and hands. This makes play more comfortable barefoot and ensures steady control on loose sand and unpredictable terrain.

The choice of size primarily depends on age and height. Younger players usually train with smaller, lighter balls to reduce strain on feet and joints, while larger balls offer youth, junior and adult players a more realistic match feel and longer kicks.

When choosing, the following parameters can help narrow your selection:

  • Size – choose a smaller ball for children and beginners, larger for youth and adults
  • Surface – grass and artificial turf require different surfaces than asphalt, tiles and sand
  • Material – softer surfaces provide better touch, harder ones increase durability
  • Stitching and bonding – affect shape retention and water absorption
  • Air pressure – adjust according to whether the ball is used for training, matches or play
  • Skill level – more precise balls for experienced players, more forgiving ones for beginners

Material, construction and maintenance

PU surfaces generally offer a soft, slightly cushioned touch and good control on first contact. Other synthetic coverings may feel a bit firmer but often enhance durability, especially on hard or rough ground where the ball is exposed to higher friction.

Machine-stitched panels ensure consistent quality and are a practical choice for training and school use. Hand-stitched panels can deliver a very precise shape and a more flexible surface that feels comfortable for dribbling and quick moves. Thermally bonded panels are assembled without traditional seams, creating a smoother surface that can improve aerodynamics, reduce water uptake in wet conditions and extend lifespan on grass and artificial turf.

Ball pressure affects both control and safety. A slightly under-inflated ball feels softer to receive and is gentler for play, while correct pressure within the manufacturer’s recommendations ensures optimal bounce and accuracy during shots, crosses and long passes. Always inflate with a suitable valve needle, moisten it lightly and stay within the recommended pressure range.

After playing on wet grass or sand, it’s a good idea to wipe the ball dry at room temperature and store it in a dry place away from direct sunlight and large temperature fluctuations. This protects the materials and seams so that shape and bounce are preserved. Choose your ball based on how often you play, the surface used most, and whether the focus is play, training or match performance, to ensure a solution that suits both playing style, ambition and the environment you play in every day.
