Do you want to build your own unique scooter?

Then you probably also had a hard time figuring out which scooter part that fist togerther... Do not despair! In this guide, we have gathered everything you need to know to be able to buy the parts that fit together. Rather use the energy to find the most sweaty parts, instead of sweating over buying the wrong parts

There is only one copy of the deck in the picture. The deck is unique, only designed in the occesion og the launch af the NKD Turbine series. It must be said it is unique. But there are many other ways to personalize your scooter. We recommend that you choose the parts that you find cool!

Which parts fits togheter?

There is no need to waste money and time on parts that dosn't fit togheter. If you follow the guide below, you can be sure that you will find all the right parts and that they fit together. You must follow the guide that starts at the top left. To make sure your choices fit together, the red hexagonal questions will help you choose the next part correctly. Finally, get loose and put your very own pre on your custom scooter! Just follow the arrows and the questions.

Choose a Deck

see the selection of decks Learn more about decks

You might be thinking that deck size should be the deciding factor in your choice? It should not be. We have very individual views to what lengths and widths we like to drive on. You need to choose the deck that YOU think is cool and that suits your style.
In the flowchart you will be asked if the deck is compatible with integrated or non-integrated headsets. This is crucial importance, as integrated headsets only fit decks designed for just that. The same goes for non-integrated headsets.

Once you have selected a deck, you must (1) Find out if a brake is included and (2) If a grip tape is included. If no brake is included, it must be selected at the end of the flowchart. In most cases, grip tape is NOT included for decks. When choosing grip tape, remember that the grip tape must be the same width or wider than the deck - the length is less important. We recommend that you cut small patterns in the grip tape, so that the expression on your scooter becomes even more personal;)
Some of the deck's specifications we will need later when choosing other parts. You can already now keep an eye on the Headset type, headtube length and which wheel diameters the deck is compatible with.

Recommendations for headset types

See the selection of headsets Learn more about headsets

Integrated headsetsas the name suggests it is integrated. But what does that really mean? Yes, that means headcups are integrated into the deck's headtube. Headcups is the term for the plateau in which the ball bearings are located. You can ONLY use integrated headsets on decks that are intended for integrated headsets! When buying a headset, the set consists of several parts. Here I mention the parts from the top: dustcap (keeps dust out), c-ring (centers the front fork), upper ball bearing, lower ball bearing and finally a crown race (a plateau on the front fork that fits the lower ball bearing). You can read more about integrated headcups and headsets in our extended guide.

We do not recommend using non-integrated headsets for stunt scooters. Headcups must be fitted with a specific tool, and should only be performed by experienced workshops. In addition, these headsets are considered to be less durable and unsuitable for tricks.

Choose a Fork

See the selection of forks Learn more about forks

There are quite a few different front forks. Here I just want to give a brief overview of what you should be aware of when buying a front fork for your custom scooter - if you want to know more, we explain in more depth about the importance of design, material and production method in our extended guide , or below the specifications of the product. Some of the front fork specifications will we need later, for selection of other parts. You can already keep an eye on the length of the front fork (sometimes stated as the total length of the front fork, although it (almost) always refers to the length of the front fork's tube (steertube)) and which compression system the front fork is compatible with.

Length of the Fork

It is important that the length of the tube (steertube) on the front fork is longer than the head tube on the deck! It must be longer because it must be possible for the bar and / or compression system to hold on to the front fork. In general, it is recommended that the front fork length is 3cm (30mm) longer than the headtube on the deck.
Recommendations regarding compression type: For SCS compression, the length can be a maximum of 5cm more than the headtube. For IHC and HIC compression there is no upper limit, on the other hand it is best if the length of the front fork is 3.8cm or more compared to the headtube on the deck.

Compressionssystem? SHIM?

In the specifications of the front fork stand which type of compression the front fork is compatible with. When building a custom stunt scooter, we recommend SCS, IHC, HIC and ICS as compression systems. Threaded compression systems are not recommended.
Shim:You should be aware that some front forks do NOT come with a compression shim. If this is the case for the front fork you have fallen in love with, simply order an IHC shim (outer diameter 32mm) or HIC shim (outer diameter 35mm) on our site - you will find them under Scooters -> Stunt -> Headsets.

Choose the right bar. What is af SLIT? How many diameter?

See the selection of bars for scooters Learn more about bars

There are different designs of bars. Here I just want to give a brief overview of what 3 things you should be aware of at bars. You can read more about material, size and design in our extended guide.
Slit is a term used for the gap at the bottom of some bars. It MUST be present to be compatible with IHC or HIC. If you need to use a bar with a slit to a SCS, you MUST use an SCS bar adapter.
Diameter: Yes, it is confusing with so many diameters! In the specifications you can see what the outer and inner diameter of the bar is. Based on that, you can follow the arrows in the guide and be sure the bar fits. You need to know the outside diameter to select the correct clamp in an instant. The inner diameter can ONLY be 28mm for IHC and 32mm for HIC, while it can be either 28 or 32mm for SCS.

Do the wheels fit the fork and deck?

See the selection of scooter wheels See the selection of brakes Learn more about brakes

Start by researching what size wheel the front fork is compatible with. Remember or write down these sizes. Now find out what size wheels the deck is compatible with. Compare the sizes from the front fork and the deck, and choose the largest size that is the same for the two. Here is an example: the front fork is compatible with 100mm and 110mm. The deck is compatible with 100mm, 110mm and 120mm. In this case, you must choose 110mm for both front wheels and rear wheels. While it might be tempting to buy larger (120mm) wheels for the deck, it is of no use because the deck will tilt forward and the scooter will be bad at doing tricks on.

It is not always that the brake comes with the deck. You must choose the brake that fits the wheel size. But also be aware that not all brakes can be fitted to all decks. Therefore, make sure that there are an equal number of screws for mounting on the deck and the brake - then you should be home safe.

What are the parts actually called on a stunt scooter?

In the video you see a scooter with HIC compression system. The video also does a lot to describe what the elements on the individual parts are called. When we all know the names, it is easier to understand each other and the excerpts that experts in the field describe.
