Hard SUP

Hard SUP is the term for a solid Stand Up Paddle board. These boards are made of a foam and epoxy material, just like surfboards are. A hard SUP is reinforced with fiberglass or carbon so that it is resistant to its own weight and less impact. A hard SUP is more stable than the inflatable SUP. To get the most out of your stand up paddle board, you need to have in mind what the board is to be used for. Different SUP boards perform well in different conditions.

Generally, hard SUPs are available in two types, based on their bottom shape and thus their ability to cut through the water. One type has a slight rock out towards the tip, allowing the board to level. The other type is more pointed, and cuts through the water like a canoe. This is one of the advantages of buying a hard SUP rather than an inflatable SUP, where it is difficult and almost impossible to specify a bottom shape - therefore inflatable SUPs are (almost) always of the type to plan.

The solid RACE SUP board is used by elite and professional athletes. These boards are coated with a material that lowers the resistance in the water. These SUPs are long and narrow so they can cut through the water quickly. Their bottom shape is pointed and of the type that cuts through the water. This board is very directional and has only 1 large fin.

The solid SURF / WAVE hard SUP boards are waxed surfboards that are used to surf waves. They are a bit more resistant to bumps and dims. A surf SUP board is short and wide, so its easy to maneuver, turn and keep balance. These boards can be designed for 3 or 4 fins.

The solid Allround SUP boards are medium in width and width. They are very stable and easy for anyone to stand on. Everyone can learn how to stand on the SUP board!
