Neopren Boots

Neoprene shoes or boots for water sports are essential if the substrate / beach floor is rough or the water has become too cold. Thick neoprene shoes 6mm and 7mm are nice warm, and ideal for use during winters. However, the high thickness also takes some of the feeling with the underlay away. Neoprene shoes of 5mm are the standard thickness and often warm enough for use all year round. The feel with the underlay is also better. Thinner neoprene shoes of 3mm or 4mm are excellent for use during summer and/or in warm weather.

You use your toes a lot to keep balance, and a splittoe neoprene shoe increases balance, but is colder than a round-toe neoprene shoe.
It is important that you choose a neoprene shoe that has a sole that fits the substrate you need to walk on so that you do not risk a rock or clam cutting through and damaging your foot.

You can read more about water sports shoes and neoprene shoes in our neoprene guide.
